Photography
It all started with my love for the outdoors and my Dad's Canon 35mm SLR. I used to take pictures of bald eagles near the Missouri river quite a bit when I was in college. Dad had a 500mm lens that came in quite handy for the far away eagles. I managed to get a few decent shots of them and had one of them in the college paper for a short write up about them.
I got a digital video camera a few years later and found myself spending a bunch of time in my Mom's garden. The zoom on the camera made it easy to get great close-ups on the colorful flowers and their habitants. I've got tons of pics of flowers, butterflies, and bugs of all shapes. I even got into putting together video footage for my band and other bands. It's a lot of fun and I think I could really get into doing video and photo promo packets for bands.
The digital age is making things easier all the time. With the gadgets out there, an average guy can do some really cool stuff now. I love taking old photos that are torn and yellowed and restoring them to a like-new photo again. With a computer, scanner, and a image editor program, there is more control over photos now than ever before. I still like to use my Canon film camera though. I like to mess with the different lenses and the different things they can do.
I've come to the conclusion that pictures and audio recordings are great, cause in the future they become doorways to old memories and feelings that are sadly sure to fade over time. It's also hard to catch a moment and be in it at the same time, so it's your call.
I have recently enrolled in New York Institute of Photography at home/online classes. I hope to improve my skills in photography to a level that I can do it professionally part-time.
I may try making some greeting cards using my photos and my other artwork as well. I'll be posting many of my adventures in photography here so take a look around and enjoy.
